Planting seeds of hope is the mission and message Joyce Divinyi shares with parents and other adults who live and work with children of all ages. Through a wide variety of training programs and media (books, audio tapes, video), Ms. Divinyi teaches adults how to respond rather than react to unacceptable behavior. Her programs and materials are energetic, entertaining and informative. Affirming that discipline teaches a skill or it is not discipline, Ms. Divinyi teaches adults how to help children and adolescents learn the self-control, and emotional coping skills, which prompt positive behavior change, with even the most emotionally wounded or oppositional youth.

Any adult who has found themselves asking the age old question "What were you thinking of?!" will learn why children and adolescents typically answer that question with "I don't know." Training programs, presentations and available materials teach behavior management skills and strategies based on a simple model of the brain as it relates to human behavior. The model, used by professionals throughout the country who received The Human Connection training, helps both children and adults learn how to change negative self-defeating behavior without having to rely exclusively on ineffectual punishment.

Some Prior Trainings

Joyce’s Divinyi’s insights into adolescent behavior are so important that this Court has required her workshops as part of the mandatory training for every new juvenile court officer hired in the last four years. Last year we asked Joyce to develop a two-hour workshop for our children and their parents called “Why Did I Do That?” and it is now one of the very first requirements for every child who is placed on probation or supervision with this Court. In this Court we want to be sure that every stakeholder understands what Joyce teaches. Her behavior change strategies and her simple but easily understood model of the brain as it relates to behavior inform all of the work that the Court does.
