Joyce Divinyi, M.S., L.P.C.
Psychotherapist, Author, Lecturer

“What were you thinking of?” is the question most frequently heard from adults trying their best to deal with difficult and unacceptable behavior in children. Joyce Divinyi’s expertise in human behavior provides the foundation for her informative, engaging, and entertaining presentations in which she helps audiences from all walks of life find the answer to this troubling and frustrating question.

Ms. Divinyi has extensive experience working with troubled children and teens in a variety of settings including schools, private practice counseling, in-patient and out-patient psychiatric facilities and residential treatment programs. Her success in achieving positive behavior changes with the most difficult situations has led her to conclude that most adults have the potential to reach these children and adolescents. The key is to be open to learning new skills and changing age-old attitudes and approaches to behavior management and discipline. The most common response to Ms. Divinyi’s strategies is “This really works.”

Ms. Divinyi has an Atlanta-based private practice in individual and family therapy and is the owner of The Human Connection, a company dedicated to understanding and changing human behavior. In addition to training parents and professionals in behavior management strategies for communicating with troubled children, she has trained employees of Fortune 500 companies in the areas of defusing hostile customers, stress management and self-motivation. She has appeared on television and radio and in a variety of publications discussing issues including school safety, potentially violent children, and children in trauma.

Ms. Divinyi is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications from Columbus State University and a Master of Science degree in community counseling from Georgia State University. She has two grown daughters and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
